Sappi North America is progressing with rebuild of a paper machine in the US

Sappi North America awarded Pöyry the detailed design for the rebuild of paper machine 1 (PM1) at its Somerset paper manufacturing facility in Skowhegan, Maine, USA. The USD 165 million capital project will expand Sappi North America’s manufacturing capabilities and flexibility to include a variety of consumer packaging grades.  The start-up of the rebuilt machine is scheduled for early 2018.

Earlier the company placed around EUR 60-70 million order with Valmet for the rebuild of PM1.

Sappi North America, headquartered in Boston and a subsidiary of global pulp and paper group Sappi Limited. It is a market leader in converting wood fiber into superior products that customers demand worldwide. The company has four diversified businesses – high quality Coated Printing Papers, Specialised Cellulose, Release Papers and Specialty Packaging.

Earlier Sappi issued redemption notice for USD 400 million 2017 bonds.
